In 2021, Rob Drydek (of the MTV 'Rob and Big' fame) was on the My First Million podcast. He talked about his method of tracking his day using a custom Google Sheet script. A month or so later, Sam Parr (of the Hustle Fame) tweeted out a screenshot and said that "SO MANY people asked" him about it.

I then poked around in Google API docs and realized I could make that tool. I tweeted out that if I received 10 ❤️'s on twitter that I would make the tool. I ended up receiving nearly 30 ❤️'s and so I set about making the tool.

I partnered with a stranger from Mexico and we started to market and sell the tool as part of a #BuildSell30 cohort in May 2022.

CalTracker is a Google Sheet add-on that automatically pulls in calendar events from Google Calendar. For example, if someone wants to track how often they go to the gym, they simply add a keyword to the Google calendar event such as #workout. CalTracker can then pull and track how often user is at the gym over time.

Why are you selling the business?

Turns out it's hard to find time for side projects when you have 3 kids, 2 dogs and a full time job.

What is included in the sale?

Code base, social media accounts, domain and site (www.mycaltracker.com). Will walkthrough new owner through codebase and offer 8 hours of support over 6 month period.

What is the technological stack?

Google Apps Script, hosted on Google Cloud (no ongoing costs other than domain registration and hosting)

What actions are required to keep the business working?

New owner will need to get Stripe account and substitute their API keys into code base (very easy to do). Customer onboarding is automated and no action needed on behalf of owner.

How does your business make money?

Customers subscribe for either monthly or yearly plans.

What marketing initiatives have been used for this business?

Have reached out to some key people on Twitter through DMs and also posted in some Facebook groups.

How can the future owner improve this business?

Continue to find customers interested in tracking their time (Google calendar power users etc). Try to get a 'shout out' from Sam Parr to identify all those people that asked about Rob's tool in the original tweet that motivated this startup.
